Editorial: Dr Alex Magaisa: Irreplaceable, inimitable
The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition joins Zimbabwe, the broader region and indeed the world in mourning the very sad passing on of Dr. Alex Magaisa, a public intellectual giant, passionate, fearless human rights and democracy fighter and a prolific writer.
Dr. Magaisa was truly a very close friend of the Coalition and we are humbled by the challenge of describing the fullness of his contribution and sacrifice on this dark day.
As we lay him to rest today, we dedicate this publication in his honor, and while we mourn, we celebrate his legacy, and we are confident that it will inspire generations to come.
Dr. Magaisa was one of the first contributors to The Zimbabwe Briefing. It is to state the very obvious that he was a very gifted writer and we couldn’t be prouder and humbler to have his contributions. Ever so approachable, the affable Dr. Magaisa always insisted on writing for no fee. He was a firm believer in the free-flow of ideas and that information should be accessible to everyone and that is why his writings were relatable to every Zimbabwean.
He leaves a legacy that will live well after him.
May His Dear Soul Rest in Eternal Peace
“We are never ready to say goodbye forever, even though we know it is a part of life. This day, our hearts are heavy for losing someone so special. But as we mourn your death, we also celebrate your life.” – Unknown.
